In a move designed to "pragmatically" improve the health and warmth of New Zealand rental properties, Dr Nick Smith today announced the goverments intention to make both insulation and smoke alarms compulsory in rental properties.
The new law will require social housing to be retrofitted with insulation by 1 July 2016 with aall other properties to meet the standard by 1 July 2019.
"There will also be a new requirement from 1 July 2016 for all landlords to state in tenancy agreements the level of ceiling, underfloor and wall insulation to better inform tenants." Dr Nick Smith
